TAÜ Faculty Members Took Part in HSBI International Week 2026 with Their Presentations
Faculty members of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at the Turkish-German University took part in HSBI International Week 2026, held between 18 and 22 May 2026 at Hochschule Bielefeld (HSBI) – University of Applied Sciences and Arts, contributing to the programme with presentations in different academic fields.
From the Department of Economics, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Prof. Dr. Elif Nuroğlu delivered a presentation titled “Building a Sustainable Bioeconomy: Türkiye’s Challenges and Opportunities.” Her presentation addressed Türkiye’s potential for a sustainable bioeconomy through the dimensions of innovation, entrepreneurship, policymaking, agriculture, industry, and cooperation with the European Union. Prof. Dr. Elif Nuroğlu also met with double-degree programme students studying at HSBI and listened to their academic and social experiences. Research Assistant Dr. Nur Banu Kartal delivered a presentation hosted by Prof. Dr. Vivian Carstensen, titled “Keeping Up at the Planet’s Expense: How Social Comparison Relates to Environmental Concern.” The presentation discussed the relationship between social comparison, relative income position, and environmental concern from the perspectives of behavioural economics and environmental economics.
From the Department of Business Administration, Assist. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin H. Nuroğlu contributed to the “International Marketing” course as part of his Erasmus+ teaching mobility visit. The course addressed the main approaches in international marketing and strategic decision-making processes for firms operating in global markets. Prof. Dr. Ela Sibel Bayrak Meydanoğlu took part in the BiCAB 2026 programme with her co-authored study titled “AI-Enabled Multimodal Science Communication: Reducing Cognitive Load and Enhancing Comprehension of Complex Research.” The study focused on the potential of AI-enabled multimodal science communication to make complex research content more comprehensible and reduce cognitive load. Research Assistant Ömer Hurmacı presented the co-authored study titled “Barriers to Academia - Municipality-Citizen-Collaboration: How Digital Transformation Overcomes Transfer Challenges Through Psychological Ownership,” which he prepared together with Prof. Dr. Müge Klein, as part of the BiCAB 2026 programme. The study discussed the opportunities offered by digital transformation for knowledge transfer, participation processes, and psychological ownership in academia, municipality, and citizen collaboration.
In addition to the academic sessions held as part of HSBI International Week 2026, TAÜ faculty members also participated in networking events, coming together with HSBI members and academics from different countries. These interactions provided an opportunity to strengthen existing academic collaborations and exchange views on potential future joint teaching and research activities.
The contributions of TAÜ faculty members to HSBI International Week 2026 reflected the university’s research diversity across fields such as sustainability, bioeconomy, international marketing, AI-enabled science communication, digital transformation, societal impact, behavioural economics, and environmental economics. The event contributed to strengthening the international academic visibility of the Turkish-German University and further developing existing academic collaborations with HSBI.
