Intergenerational Returns to Migration

11.12.2024

At the workshop on Intergenerational Transmission of Inequalities held on December 2-3, 2024, at Católica-Lisbon, Dr. Guido Neidhöfer, representing the Turkish-German University, delivered a presentation titled "Intergenerational Returns to Migration".

In his talk, Dr. Neidhöfer explored the dynamic interplay between migration and economic opportunities across generations. His analysis shed light on the mechanisms through which migration decisions influence long-term outcomes for migrant families and the subsequent generation, offering valuable insights into policy implications that could enhance social mobility and reduce inequalities. This presentation was part of a broader session on Intergenerational Mobility and Migration, highlighting current research and debates in the field.

The Intergenerational Transmission of Inequalities workshop took place at Católica-Lisbon’s School of Business and Economics from December 2-3, 2024. This event brought together esteemed researchers from various institutions to discuss the effects of parental investments, migration, and social programs on social equity and mobility. Through a series of focused sessions, the workshop provided a multidisciplinary platform for presenting recent findings and fostering discussions that aim to deepen our understanding of how inequalities are transmitted across generations and what can be done to disrupt these patterns.
